This permanently archives the vehicle’s device record

Resetting a device archives the vehicle you select. That record stops being active: it disappears from Vehicle Health, Watchdog and every other live page, and from MyGeotab’s active vehicle list. Its trip, fault and driver history is kept and stays attached to the archived record — but the vehicle is gone from day-to-day use.

A brand-new record is then created reusing the same physical serial number, so the hardware can be installed in another vehicle or held as a spare.

Step 1 — How Each Rule Is Scored (0–100)

Every enabled rule produces a score: 100 = perfect, 0 = worst possible. The formula depends on what the rule measures:

Hard Acceleration · Harsh Braking · Harsh Cornering · Idling

Distance-Normalized

Score = max( 0, 100 − (Events × 1,609) ÷ Total km )

Penalty grows with event frequency relative to how far the driver travelled. Occasional events over long distances barely affect the score; frequent events on short runs have a large impact.

Speeding

pct = km driven while speeding ÷ Total km × 100 Score = 100 − pct × Multiplier

The multiplier increases as the speeding % rises — from ×6 (at <0.3%) up to ×20 (at 5%). This means chronic speeders are penalised sharply: spending 5% of a trip over the limit scores 0.

Score = 70% × Tiered( km unbuckled ÷ Total km ) + 30% × Distance-Normalized( event count )

Blends how long the belt was off (distance %) with how often it was off (event count). One long unbuckled stretch is treated differently from many short ones.

Step 2 — Combining Rules into One Final Score

Each rule score is multiplied by its weight (the % you set), then the totals are summed and divided by 100:

Worked Example — 4 rules, each weighted 25%

Weights must total exactly 100%. You control which behaviours matter most — e.g. assign 35% to Speeding if that is your fleet's biggest concern.

Step 3 — Risk Classification & Recommended Action

Low Risk ≥ 90 Excellent driving habits — no action needed

Mild Risk 80 – 89 Minor issues — worth a brief check-in or reminder

Medium Risk 70 – 79 Recurring behaviour — coaching session recommended

High Risk < 70 Significant risk — immediate intervention required

No Activity — 0 km driven in the period — no score issued

Distance source: Total km is taken from Geotab Trip records for the selected period, not from exception event distances. Exception distances (how far the vehicle travelled during a violation) are used only as numerators in the Speeding and Seat Belt formulas.
